"S" MOUNTAIN IN SALIDA, COLORADO
(Photos of Mountains and Town of Salida) - May 4, 2008
I traveled on Spiral Drive in Salida with the plan to make the nice,
leisurely walk along the spiraled portion of road to the top of "S" Mountain.
I planned to park at the gate and walk the remainder but the gate was open.
(I forgot the gate is open during the warmer months!) Personally,
I have a hard time walking and/or hiking somewhere, especially on a road,
when I know I could just drive up ... So I kept driving! It reminded
me a little bit of my experience reaching the summit of Mt. Antero. :)
The white structure at the summit.
This mountain is also known as Tenderfoot Mountain, but the large "S" on
its west side has many people calling it "S" Mountain.
Three photos of the town of Salida.
I zoomed-in to capture some of the grand mountain views to the west.
TOP: Mt. Ouray and Chipita Peak.
MIDDLE: Mt. Shavano and Mt. Antero.
BOTTOM: Mt. Princeton.
There are mountains and hills behind "S" Mountain to the west.
This area does not get the respect it deserves, due to its close proximity to much larger mountain ranges.
That's my car parked down there, and notice there are trails that appear
excellent for mountain biking and hiking.
A closer view of downtown Salida.
