North Cottonwood Canyon -
A Drive Into The North Cottonwood Area Via 4-Wheel Drive (April 26, 2009)
|
April 26, 2009 - It was a windy and chilly Sunday afternoon and my buddy Kent
and I were looking to get out and do something. I suggested we drive (in his 4-wheel drive truck)
as far as we could into "North Cottonwood Canyon" located west of the Game Trail residential area.
Now this particular canyon, as far as I know and in
studying my maps, doesn't have a distinct name. North Cottonwood Creek is the main tributary waterway in this canyon,
and so North Cottonwood Canyon seems appropriate.
Whatever you call it, this is the canyon that divides Mt. Yale
and Mt. Columbia, and leads by trail
to interesting places such as Kroenke Lake, Bear Lake and Horn Fork Basin. |
 |
It was difficult to see much mountain scenery from the road. I did, however,
capture some nice shots of the aspens. Oh this must be a great place to visit in the autumn! :) |
|
The road intersects the Colorado Trail. Notice all the snow remaining on this
particular portion of trail! |
|
A few tenths of a mile before the road ends and becomes a trail, the
snow became too much for Kent's truck.
We stopped at this point to relax and snap some pictures. In that bottom photo, a snowball is coming at me. See it? :) |

This is not the greatest photo gallery, but I wanted to document our drive in the canyon.
Personally, I've spent a lot more time in
Chalk Creek Canyon,
South Cottonwood Canyon,
"Cottonwood Canyon" (which leads to Cottonwood Pass) and
Clear Creek Canyon in the county. Maybe I'll be back to this one!
Adjacent
is one photo of Mt. Princeton in the Game Trail area.
